School and Stuff

School is in full swing and this is by far my hardest semester. I have been at this school for a few semesters now and this is the first one that I have homework almost every night. And along with all of my extra activities its not been the easiest time to keep up. thus I haven't blogged in a while.

Since my last post a lot has happened in the Athletics Department. We opened our new Softball stadium last week. It was a big time challenge. I stopped by the office around noon to help load some graphics for the game and was quickly roped into so much more. I didn't leave that night until after the game. But I loved every minute of it. It really was cool to be a part of the big event. I helped setup the furniture in the suites loaded the press box with chairs, tested our camera, setup some fan relations stuff and even saw the first fan walk in. Once the game started I was on a wireless shoulder camera and had access to the entire facility. It was fun to go on and off the field and in and out of the dugouts. Although we didn't put many live shots up it was fun being a part of it all. The best part was beating #19 Texas A&M in the bottom of the 7th 3-2 photos.

All of that excitement parlayed into a great Bobcat Bonanza, the annual athletic fundraiser, the following Friday. The night was really cool, I've never been to an event like that. The night started off with a closest to the pin competition for the VIP guests then a nice catered dinner by Texas Roadhouse also an open bar, then came the live auction which was a great time. we auctioned off a trip to Reno for 2, a trip to Mesquite with the Football team, and a bunch of NBA court side tickets. There was also a silent auction with lots of cool items highlighted by a Nolan Ryan signed baseball. I think we ended up making close to $40,000 that night.

Next week we are opening our brand new Baseball stadium against #4 Texas. I'm super excited about it because My brother, his wife, my mom, my mom's friend and my girlfriend will get to go to the sold out game as well. I'm not sure if I will be on a camera or just in the booth doing computer stuff but either way I'm happy to be there and hopefully we get a win!

My reality TV addiction has been fueled the past few weeks. Survivor is one of my favorites it started last week and I was sad to see that 2 of the better looking girls were voted off in the first 2 weeks. I also got addicted to this horrible, awful show called True Beauty. I don't know if any of you saw it but they took 10 pretty people and put them through a few challenges to find their inner beauty. I was please to see that the nicest, prettiest girl from Texas was the winner.

I guess that's all for now. Leave some comments let me know you are reading.
I miss all of you that I haven't seen in a while and hope that you are all doing well.

Random Entries

I'm going to start this off with a disclaimer that this may be a very random entry. I haven't wrote in a week or so and a few different things have caught my attention that may (or may not) be worthy of writing about.

As seen in my previous post my trip to Fogo De Chao was great but what I neglected to mention the bathroom it featured something I've been saying, mostly to myself, that needs to be a new trend. That trend is the lower urinal! You know there is always a few urinals at one height then the one at a lower height that some may claim are reserved for kids! Anyway, this may get a little graphic, but I always use the little one purely for the lack of splash on the hands! You might laugh but guys you've experienced this before, peeing at a urinal and maybe a little splash on your hands or near your pockets, I really hope I'm not alone in this experience. With the lower positioned urinal the splash, at best, hits your pants around the knees, short wearers have a whole new problem. But I prefer the splash on my knees rather than back on my goods or on my hands. Sure you could wash your hands to take care of it but why not prevent it all together! So it was nice to see that a high class place like Fogo has embraced my silent idea of only having low ones.

As I was riding the bus around campus the other day I saw something that totally perplexed me... A girl was walking along with her left arm full of books and in her right hand a Large cup of coffee as well as a lit cigarette! So it made me wonder what her plan of attack was to take advantage of that lit cigarette. Any ideas?

Also something that bothers me is when people try to get on the bus before people get off. WHY?

This week of school was good my classes are challenging and I've quickly lost the excitement I had for this semester. One highlight though is the new position I have picked up I am an Intern in the Athletics office working with the marketing dept. I work with some really cool, creative and smart people that work hard to get things done for the school. It's a real exciting time for Athletics at our school with all of the new facilities being built. We open our new Softball stadium on Feb 18th with a home game against Texas A&M, I'll be running a wireless camera at the game, it will be the first game in history we will have a camera working to supply the scoreboard with live images. I'm excited.

Also today I did an interview with one of our athletes for a piece to be posted on our website, I will post a link, I also have one lined up for Monday and look forward to a few more by the end of the month.

I'm working on a logo for something at school. I have all of these ideas in my head but I don't have the skill to make it come to life via Photoshop or Illustrator.

Not sure how I feel about the 33yr old unemployed single mother that just had 8 kids to bring her grand total to 13....

My dog snores. It makes me sympathize with my girlfriend for having to deal with my "loud" breathing.

In my Exercise Physiology lab I learned that I am a powerful being. We tested our power and I shocked myself with my abilities. My vertical was 8'11"! That means I can pretty much touch net! Don't come in my house!! but truthfully my vert was 1'7" I was proud.

One of my favorite shows, Friday Night Lights, aired an episode on Friday that featured my school stadium as Texas A&M. good stuff.

Did anyone see that Lakers win in OT over the Celtics without Bynum? I missed it!

Its great to be in Texas in February where people are laying out tanning because its been like 78 all week

be back soon!

Surprise visitor

So I'm sitting in a computer lab at school on Monday printing out some material for my next class, ok I'm also looking at facebook, and I get a text message from my long time friend Nick Carrillo (check out his facebook) his message asks when a good time time come visit is. We had been talking about him visiting for a month or so and we had potentially settled on sometime in March, so I replied "anytime after Feb 14th is great" he said I was thinking more like today. So I say great come today. So I go to class and he messaged me to pick him up at midnight in Austin. Good Times! I'm so excited he is here. He is the only the second friend to visit me here in Texas, the first being Lance Dombrowski, Nick is doing great living his dream of making his own schedule and making a living at something he loves.

Nick was nice enough to take me and my beautiful girlfriend Chelsea out to dinner last night. He wanted to treat us somewhere that was "super juicy". So I did a little research and we decided on Fogo De Chao. WOW is really the best response to the meal we had. I don't know how many of you are familiar with what Fogo is, it is a Brazilian steakhouse. After being helped into our seats we were asked what kind of water we would like sparkling, spring or regular water, being the water snob I am I requested spring and the rest of the table agreed and so our glasses were filled with a fresh bottle of spring water . Next we made our way to the salad and appetizer bar, it was a fantastic spread of traditional brazilian munchies as well as amazing salad toppings. We returned to the table to find a basket of bread, tried it and regretfully informed Nick and Chelsea how good it was so we fought over it the rest of the night. The bread reminded me of Popovers that my Aunt made when she visited. Moving on to the best part of the meal, the meat. So this is the neat part you have complete control of your dining experience, you have a little token that is red on one side and green on the other so when you want meat you put green up and guys come to your table with huge skewers of meat and slice off and this isn't just any meat it was delicious and so many different options from rib eye to fillet Mignon to pork and bacon wrapped chicken. It was unbelievable! By far the best meat I've ever eaten. I would highly recommend this place as a treat to yourself sometime.

After that treat we went and met my good friend Courtney to celebrate her 21st birthday on the square in San Marcos. We had a great time it was really fun to be able to finally buy her some shots and drinks while she was out with us.

All in all it was a phenomenal evening great friends and great food....what more do you need

Sports Night

So I had to write this short blurb on my favorite TV show for my Programming Electronic Media class so here it is in the rough..... add a comment whats your favorite TV show

My favorite show of all time is Sports Night. Sports night was a great show that aired in 1999 and 2000 but was cancelled due to poor ratings. The show is about making a show similar to SportCenter but it isn't all about sports, in fact their tag line is "It's about sports. The same way Charlie's Angels was about law enforcement. It's a Show About a Show About Sports, That Isn't About Sports At All". The show was nominated for 8 Emmy's and won 3. Sports Night was canceled after only airing 45 episodes. The show had an all star cast that included Peter Krause, Felicity Huffman and Robert Guillaume.

I love this show, I own every episode on DVD and still laugh today when I watch it. The writing is really what I love about the show, the jokes aren't real obvious but are slipped in with amazing wit. The show is centered around two anchors of a sports highlight show and their trouble in producing a show every night along with the trials and tribulations of their crew and personal lives. My favorite character is Casey McCall who is played by Peter Krause, and is based loosely on Craig Kilborn during his days as a SportCenter anchor. The relationship between the two anchors is also very entertaining, they care for each other very much but are constantly in competition.

First of hopefully many

Today I start my blog. I would like to write a lot more so I feel like this could be a good outlet for that. This is probably the wrong time to start this since I am also starting the hardest semester I've had to date, but we'll see how it goes. I plan on finding random things on the web and perhaps elaborating on things that stupid people do around me or other irrational things like Braille on Drive up ATMs and such. You may find yourself being mentioned in this blog and I hope that I don't offend anyone. Also I will be featuring some writing assignments for a few of my classes.

Have a good day
